If you are doing any kind of business online or are hoping to do business online, you need to have a Facebook Page.  There is literally no single, better platform for reaching an unlimited audience of highly targeted customers anywhere.

Plus, due to Facebook's incredible reach, it helps you instantly establish a broader ​reach for your identity and creates an additional channel beyond just your website which can give you and your business more visibility.

You probably get tired of hearing this, but one of the most important things you need to do when building your business is create and/ or identify your business' target audience.  

This means identifying the demographics, likes, wishes, and wants of the people who want to hear what you are saying and want to buy what you are selling.

Sometimes this is easy and sometimes this can be hard and take a lot of time.  It really depends on how focused and targeted your business is (but that's another blog post on its own).

Facebook's demographic and interest data is second to none and its insights stats engine can tell you exactly what the target demographics and interests of your audience is.  

How?

The Likes you get for your Facebook page (Fans) ​will have their data input into your Page's Insights reports, thus giving you the information you need to identify your audience appropriately.  The more Likes your page gets, the clearer the picture on who your perfect prospect or customer will be.  What's even better is you can do this without needing a substantial amount of traffic.

The added benefit of developing an audience through Facebook is it can either validate the niche you are working in or it can tell you if a potential business idea is worth pursuing.  If there is interest you will definitely see it and if there isn't, you will find that as well.  ​

Hi there,
I am working on a new blog/freelance business. I have a Facebook page, and I think it’s probably too early to start advertising. But I still don’t reeeeallly understand the facebook ads thing. Is it an ad for my blog post? Or an ad for one of my affiliate links?

    There are a lot of things you can do with Facebook Ads. There are a lot of different strategies, etc. The most important thing to know before getting started is what would your advertising goals be? What do you want to accomplish. Facebook has several different types of ads you can run and different objectives for each. You can run ads which help boost traffic to blog posts, but before you do something like that, its important to know you can benefit from that traffic beyond just hoping people will click on an affiliate link. If not, you will waste a lot of money on Facebook Advertising.
